Solar Choices

Swift Payback for your farm

Farmers can see a swift payback on their investment on a solar PV system
and with the rising and unpredictable energy markets, benefit and rely on a
steady supply of renewable electricity for the foreseeable future.

cost savings

Your business relies on electricity and your PV system will enable you to cut the cost of your electricity bill by harnessing the free energy from the sun. Generate your own electricity and ensure substantial savings.

Generating solar PV electricity for your farm is reliable, predictable and bankable; making it a great way to provide energy security for your business for the foreseeable future.

Protection against
volatile energy prices

PV will enable you to reduce the ever-rising energy costs. Your savings will increase every time the prices go up!

carbon emissions

The renewable energy you receive from the sun is sustainable and 100% free from carbon emissions.

Be a “green”

Being “green” is becoming more and more important these days. A Solar PV system is the perfect way to improve the green credentials of your business.

PV systems require very low maintenance. The solar panels should be cleaned to maintain their performance.

Financial Support Available

Targeted Agricultural Modernisation Scheme (TAMS). Solar panels on any farm – dairy, beef or tillage – can avail of grant aid under the Targeted Agricultural Modernisation Scheme (TAMS). See press release from Minister Creed from April 2019: – Minister Creed confirms opening of €10 million Renewable Energy Grants for Farms (

Grant support is available for up to 11kWp of solar PV and 6kWp of battery storage. And in addition, most farmers can secure a 40% grant on their solar PV investment with young, qualified farmers getting up to 60% or a 30% BEC grant from the Sustainability Energy Authority of Ireland (SEAI). Solar Choices is a registered business with the Sustainability Energy Authority of Ireland (SEAI) and can advise and assist you with securing available grants for your farm business.

Accelerated Capital Allowances (ACA)

This is a tax incentive aimed at companies paying corporation tax, sole-traders and non-corporates. The scheme allows them to write off 100% of the purchase value of qualifying energy efficient equipment against their profit in the first year of purpose. Solar PV systems can qualify for the scheme provided the model of solar panel is registered on the Triple E Register. More information on Accelerated Capital Allowances (ACA) can be found on the SEAI website.

Grants Excellence in Energy Efficiency Design (EXEED)

The Excellence in Energy Efficiency Design (EXEED) programme offers grant support to business and industry for energy improvements and can encompass grant support for solar PV systems. More information on Grants Excellence in Energy Efficiency Design (EXEED) can be found on the SEAI website.

Solar Choices PV system components

Solar Choices installs high-quality products from world leading manufacturers. A Solar PV system has the following components:

PV Panels: Longi Mono 365W

A solar PV array consists of a number of solar PV panels that are electrically connected. The solar PV array generates DC electricity from sunlight. Longi are Monocrystalline black framed modules using Half-cut Technology. Ideal for slate or dark tiled roofs

Inverter: Solis

A solar power inverter is a key part of any solar photovoltaic system, as it converts electricity from DC to AC. This is necessary since you need AC power for the energy supply of your home appliances.

The Solis range has exceptionally low input voltage making them suitable for very small systems of just two modules. All products offered are certified to EN50438 for the Irish market.

Diverter: Eddi

Diverters or charge controllers regulate the DC from the solar panels to make sure that the batteries don’t overcharge. A charge controller can measure whether the batteries are fully charged, and can stop the current from flowing in order to prevent the batteries from permanent damage.

Eddi is an eco smart energy management system, it diverts surplus power from solar PV or wind generation to a designated heating appliance (or two sequentially). This excess energy will go directly to a designated appliance such as an immersion heater. Eddi allows you to stop exporting energy back to the grid & saves you money on your energy bill.

Battery: Pylontech

An optional battery makes sure that none of your unused energy goes to waste, as it stores the energy that is being produced by the PV array and is not consumed immediately. It can then, for example, supply your home with electricity during the night or during very cloudy weather when there is insufficient sunlight.

The Pylontech is a modern lithium battery, excellent at storing and releasing surplus energy. Creating a huge impact on the savings you can make with your solar photovoltaic system.

Solar Choices can also install your
Electric Vehicle Charger
at the same time as installing your PV Solar System.
